Quantum of Solace – user reviews

  1. Review by Byron Edwards:

Quantum of Solace showed plenty of action with Bond travelling from place to place leaving where Casino Royale left off. The action sequences were excellent. Daniel Craig yet again delivers a gritty but vengeful performance a lot more to Fleming’s books, which is great to see. Depending on the next mission this may need toning down just a touch times so we see his other Bond traits as well, which were portrayed well in Casino Royale, the drinks, the cars and the seduction of women etc but Craig’s humour as Bond should not change as although there was very little, he delivers it well in a sarcastic manner which I would expect to see more of.

Olga was very good, sexy Bond girl whilst having her own agenda supports Craig well but I was slightly disappointed with the bad guy Dominic Greene played by Mathieu Amalr and henchmen who were all a bit weak in their performance for me and needed a bit of toughness about them.

This Bond film certainly lacked some classic Bondisms such as: Q, Moneypenny, the seductions of ladies and the gun barrel at the beginning (not the end) but it was great to hear Monty Norman’s traditional theme too. Judi Dench was on fine form as M as tough as she is, Bond should show a little bit more respect to her superior. Nice to see Tanner again and Felix back as reliable as ever. The song though was disappointing for me especially from such talent as Jack White and Alicia Keys I would like to see a big brass ballad next.

Although the film was a good action film following on from Casino Royale we need to bring it back to a traditional Bond film whilst not losing excellent characters that have been formed in the passed two films. For a Bond film it wasn’t the best and certainly not the worst. However, I will go to the cinema to see it again and will look forward to Bond 23.
